Frank and Allie Lee’s Banjo Gathering – Mountain View Meeting Place

July 25, 2019 - July 26, 2019

  • Frank and Allie Lee

Bring your 5-string banjo for clawhammer instruction with Frank and Allie Lee! All students will receive one-on-one instruction with Frank and Allie as well as lots of time jamming songs and tunes from Music Roots repertoire as well as Frank & Allie’s favorites from the Southeast.

Beginners and early intermediate folks will join Allie for an introduction to tuning, the basic strum, playing along in a jam, easy “licks and tricks”, and tunes to play with others. Confident intermediate and advanced players will join Frank for techniques including drop thumb, using the 5th string melodically, alternate string pull-offs, playing up the neck, and tunes & songs for jamming and solo performances.

Frank & Allie Lee (Bryson City, NC) will be performing at the Ozark Folk Center on Saturday, 7/27. The good folks at Mountain View Meeting Place have teamed up with Frank & Allie to provide time and space for clawhammer banjo workshops. Teaching banjo workshops is something Frank & Allie enjoy on their travels. Frank is well-known in the old time music world from his clawhammer work with string band The Freight Hoppers. He also has an instructional DVD available on Homespun Tapes. He has been on staff at Augusta Heritage Center Old Time Week, Roots of American Music Week at Mars Hill, and more. Frank and Allie also coordinate an old time music retreat in their hometown called the Banjo-Fiddle Frolic. Allie is a former 7th grade Language Arts teacher and also a trained Wernick Method Bluegrass Jam instructor. Frank & Allie are excited to present their banjo workshops in Mountain View again!
